Saving my life: Winter 17

Linking up with Modern Mrs Darcy and sharing some of the things saving my life and keeping the 'winter blues' at bay.

  • Reading always and forever amen! Reading blogs and feeling connected, reading deep books and feeling informed and strengthen, reading light books and finding a quiet corner amidst the chaos to feed my spirit.

  • Playing an app game with my oldest. This is a tougher school year with more homework and tougher assignments and since winter doesn't always allows us the opportunity to run, laugh and play outside I'm cherishing the moments where we strategize together, celebrate silly successes and 'feed the animals'.
  • Laughing; seeking out favorite shows like MASH and As Time Goes By and enjoying an episode or three.
  • Lighting a candle or two in the evening.
  • Weekly visit to a local coffee shop and making a cup of tea as we start homework.
What is saving your life this winter?

May Goals

I'm a bit late getting this up but spent the weekend traveling ~ better late...

While there are aspects of winter that I love it is also very true that I often get a case of the 'winter blues' which often means some slippage in the self-care department.  So I'm taking the clear appearance of spring and the start of a new month as a opportunity for a reset; and sharing here so that others can join in and/or holding me accountable.

Goals for the month:

  • Wake up my style by committing to wearing skirts or dresses 3x a week
  • 5000 steps (counting on my phone which I don't constantly carry) a day and strength training 3x a week.
  • 30 oz of water a day
  • Journaling daily in my nice new Blessed is She journal
  • minimum of 8 posts this month on this little blog here

There you go ~ 5 goals for the fifth month

Keeping my committments

mostly to myself.

Towards the end of last year Dwija of House Unseen started posting weekly pictures of her kids (gorgeous btw) and I said to myself "Self what a great idea, lets do that starting in January".  Well in this like so many other ways January kicked my butt.  So for January we going to call it this Month's shots and move forward 'kay.

Someone turned 1

Only picture I could find of Liam was a group shot, ah well.

Mama needs Coffee ~ Wellness Project: Did make a start with this wonderful idea but am recommitting this month to fight the winter blahs by choosing each day in some little way to care for myself.

And so I resolve to take the pictures and take care of myself ~ here's to the new month and a reboot!

Day 29 ~ What words and girl power has in common!

May I offer a little challenge to pony up a cheer for a woman whose words have changed you? Go ahead, link to a blog in the comments that has blessed, transformed, loved, challenged, amazed you.

Today as part of the 31 day challenge hosted by the gypsy mom Lisa Jo we are celebrating girl power  ~ that wonderful force that encourages and inspires us all when we celebrate each other.

Here are some of the wonderful women and their blogs that inspire me:

Modern Mrs Darcy for offering so much inspiration of how to find balance in the modern world with all its blessings and challenges.

Martin Family Moments for sharing with so much wisdom and humor the daily adventure of raising a family, being slightly ahead of me in the parenting journey acts as a guiding light of the path ahead.

Fumbling towards Grace for sharing of her experience and passion for social justice so thoughtfully and beautifully.

Now it's your turn...

Day 13 ~ Encouragement to stay the course

So the 'packed but doable day' of course morphs into the complicated by child up incredible early, work deadline, huge traffic jam and errands taking 3x as long to complete as you had guess day ~ and you are at that point in the challenge where the enthusiasm of starting out has passed and you're not yet at any big milestone of achievement (i.e halfway, or within view of the finish) and you are wondering why you started and if anyone would notice if you skipped a day or stopped all together.
And then friends tell you they are reading and enjoying what you are writing and the host of the challenge post a favorite quote by a favorite author ~ and suddenly you can go on, will go on and want to keep writing your story, before you fall asleep at your keyboard.
