Quick Takes #249: Happy November!

  1. It was a busy, but fun week with such much to celebrate and enjoy.  I think this October will go down in the books as one of crazy swings in weather but overall a good month.
  2. Halloween went well with me pulling off the great parenting feat of attending nearly simultaneous costume parades at my kids two schools. The weather was chilly but the costumes were great and everyone had a good time. Trick or treating had Elisabeth heading off with friends for the first time and Liam & Caitlin working well together reaping a decent candy haul.
  3. All Saints Day was largely a recovery day. We attended Mass, and Liam enjoyed a birthday lunch with G-ma but otherwise a nice down day after the business of Halloween.  Feast of All Souls had the kids back in school and us for the first time speaking more explicitly with the big 2 about praying for deceased family members.
  4. We had fun watching the World Series this week despite the late night's especially since my MIL was visiting.  We lived in Houston during Charlie's residency and have many friends who still lived there so were thrilled with the ultimate champions but also the series of great games getting there.
  5. Given the bad weather last weekend Liam's Cross Country Champ meet was moved to this coming weekend. Hoping for good weather and wrapping up this season with a good race!
  6. This weekend will also include a hike with Liam's cub scout pack.

Quick Takes #195 Life these days

  1. Really enjoyed participating in the 31day posting challenge last month but clearly needed a break afterwards but now want to play a bit of catch-up.
  2. Halloween went well in the end with Elisabeth happy with how her Elanor ( a superhero of her own creation) costume came together and I finally figured out that costumes frightened Caitlin and she wanted to wear her own clothes. So I put on her longest princess dress and added a pink cape for warmth ~ Lisbeth dubbed her 'little pink riding hood' and we were off without a hitch.
  3. November has stayed at the warmer end of the fall weather spectrum which I have appreciated as I raked and bagged ~ and I'm sure the kids appreciated as they pile jumped and we even managed a few more playground playdates with friends.
  4. The All Saints Pageant at Lisbeth's school went well and it was nice to be able to follow-up this week by acknowledging the feast days of Saint Margaret of Scotland who her best friend had chosen to research and Saint Elizabeth of Hungary who Lisbeth had chosen.
  5. After the attacks last week a few people have asked after my family and so I want allay any fears; nearly all of my family on my mom's side live in Belgium and so were not near the attacks. They are of course (as am I) heartsick about the perpetrators ties to Belgium. I think one of the hardest lessons we are learning as we hear of Americans radicalized and young women disappearing from good neighborhoods in London is that it can happen anywhere.
  6. Weekend plans include meeting with a Pre-Cana couple and going to a birthday party for a friend's son. What ever yours includes, have a good one!
  7. A Picture from Halloween; better later than never right?

Quick Takes vol #35

  1. Happy Halloween Eve, I'm very curious to see what Elisabeth thinks of all the costumed people coming up to our door. She likes her costume, so hopefully she will enjoy the whole experience.
  2. The car trip last weekend went well with beautiful fall colors seen on the drive, and E. had fun playing with her cousins ( and they enjoyed seeing how much more fun she is now that she is not a 'baby').
  3. Not for nothing, I love pumpkin: pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin spice latte, and very likely pumpkin spice cookies; I'll tell you after I make them this weekend.
  4. New Words for the Week: 'Good morning' and 'right back'
  5. New favorite activity: Stomping and kicking thru raked leaf piles!!
  6. Mini Book Review: I'm only half-way through "My Life with the Saints" by James Martin S.J. and am really enjoying it. He tells his spiritual biography by telling of how learning of various saints and their faith journey affected and enhanced his.
  7. Happy Halloween and Blessed All Saints Day!!
